Poetry

Abbas Kiarostami is mostly known for his poetic cinema, but he was also a published poet. His poems — short, contemplative, and inspired by the haiku tradition — have been translated into more than ten languages. Besides his own poetry, he also released selections from masters of Persian poetry such as Hafez, Saadi, and Rumi, offering a fresh perspective on their work.

He once said: "A poem is made up of the same elements that make cinema: images and a kind of rhythm. A good poem allows you to see something you hadn't seen before."

The full moon reflected in water the water contained in the bowl and the thirsty man deep in sleep.
